Single Mom And Owning It

It happened one ordinary night.

The girls were in their pajamas, hair still wet from the shower, giggling about something on TV.

Then, in between laughter, one of them said it- “Mommy, we want to have a daddy.” I smiled.

I tried to make it light.

But deep down, something inside me cracked quietly.

Not out of anger.

Not out of guilt.

But out of that ache only a mother understands - the ache of wanting to give your kids everything, even the things life took away from you.

I nodded, fighting back the tears, and said, “Maybe one day, baby.” Then I turned away for a moment - not to hide weakness, but to protect their innocence from seeing mine.

The Quiet Pain We Don’t Talk About No one prepares you for that kind of moment.

The world tells single moms to be strong, unstoppable, unbothered.

But they never talk about what happens when your child’s wish slices through your armor.

I’ve carried my strength like a badge for years.

Built businesses.

Survived heartbreaks.

Rebuilt my life with no blueprint, no safety net, no one to call when it gets too heavy.

But that night reminded me even the strongest women bleed quietly.

And that’s okay .

Choosing Peace Over Pity There was a time I used to feel ashamed - like I had to explain why I’m alone, why I don’t have a “complete” family, why I haven’t found “the one.” But the truth?

I stopped waiting for someone to complete me the moment I realized I was already whole.

Being a single mom isn’t a label of lack…it’s a statement of strength.

I built a home on love, not on someone’s presence.

My daughters laugh loudly, sleep peacefully, and dream big - that’s all the validation I need.

Redefining Love Still, I’d be lying if I said I don’t think about love.

But love feels different now.

It’s not about butterflies or fireworks.

It’s about peace.

Stability.

Presence.

If one day someone comes into my life, he won’t be there to “save” me or “father” my kids out of duty.

He’ll be there because he sees the empire I’ve built - and wants to stand beside it, not above it.

Until then, I’m not waiting.

I’m evolving.

Because love will meet me where I am - and I’m not lost.

Owning It, Every Day I used to think being a single mom meant I had to prove something - to the world, to my kids, to myself.

Now I know I don’t have to prove anything.

I just have to be.

Be present.

Be real.

Be unbreakable, but also soft when it counts.

When my daughters asked for a daddy, I didn’t hear failure…I heard hope.

Hope that maybe someday, we’ll all experience love in its healthiest form.

But until then, I’ll keep showing them what love looks like through my actions - consistency, compassion, courage.

That’s the kind of love no man can replace.

Final Words So yes…I’m a single mom.

But I’m not broken.

I’m not waiting.

I’m owning it.

And if you’re reading this, and you’re walking the same path - please remember: You are not less.

You are more.

You’re the mother and the father, the leader and the nurturer, the storm and the calm after it.

You are proof that love doesn’t have to come in pairs - it can come from one heart that beats fiercely for her children.

Because in the end, being a single mom isn’t about what’s missing.

It’s about everything we’ve become.
